About Babylon A.D.

Formed in 1987, Babylon A.D. emerged from the San Francisco Bay Area hard rock scene. Vocalist and songwriter Derek Davis, guitarists and songwriters John Mathews and Ron Freschi, and the other original members built their reputation by playing energetic live shows and becoming one of Northern California’s strongest-drawing original hard rock bands.

After relocating to Hollywood in 1988, Babylon A.D. quickly gained attention for their powerful performances, memorable songwriting, heavy guitar sound, and arena-ready hooks. In 1989, the band caught the attention of Arista Records president Clive Davis, who signed them following a Los Angeles showcase.

The band’s self-titled debut album, Babylon A.D., arrived in 1990 and introduced fans to songs including “Bang Go the Bells,” “Hammer Swings Down,” and “The Kid Goes Wild.” The debut spent 38 weeks on the Billboard 200 and reached No. 46. “The Kid Goes Wild” was also featured in connection with the 1990 film RoboCop 2.

Babylon A.D. followed its debut with Nothing Sacred in 1992, featuring songs such as “Bad Blood” and “So Savage the Heart.” Extensive touring, memorable music videos, and regular exposure during the height of the hard rock era helped the band build a dedicated international following.

The group continued its recording history with releases including Live in Your Face, American Blitzkrieg, In the Beginning, Revelation Highway, and the live album Live Lightning. These releases preserved the energy of the band’s early material while showing the group’s continued evolution as musicians and songwriters.

In 2024, Babylon A.D. released Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day, featuring the singles “Wrecking Machine” and the album’s title track. The band followed it in September 2025 with its sixth studio album, When the World Stops, continuing the powerful, melodic hard rock sound that has defined Babylon A.D. for decades.
